Why We Chose 150m Water Resistance Over 200m for Our Diver’s Watch
The Balance Between Performance and Design
When designing our Kshan diver’s watch, we had a crucial decision to make: Should we aim for 200m water resistance or optimize for 150m? While a higher rating might seem better on paper, real world usability and aesthetics played a key role in our choice.
Understanding Water Resistance Ratings
Before diving into the specifics, it’s important to understand what water resistance ratings truly mean. Generally:
- 100m: Suitable for swimming and snorkelling.
- 150m: Ideal for free diving and prolonged water exposure.
- 200m and beyond: Typically associated with professional dive watches used in more extreme conditions.
For most users, including professional and recreational divers, any watch under 300m is considered a free dive watch, meaning it is designed for deep water use but not necessarily for saturation diving.
Why 150m Is the Perfect Fit
1. Maintaining a Sleek and Comfortable Profile
One of the core principles of Kshan watches is achieving a balance between function and form. To achieve a 200m water resistance, we would have had to increase the case thickness beyond our current 10.3 mm profile. This would have added unnecessary bulk, making the watch less elegant and less comfortable for everyday wear.
2. True to Its Purpose – A Free Dive Watch
A 150m rating ensures our watch provides the necessary performance for any free diving scenario while avoiding the excess thickness that often accompanies deeper-rated dive watches. Since most recreational divers and enthusiasts don’t go beyond 40m, our water resistance is more than sufficient for real-world applications.
3. Better Wrist Wrap and Wearability
A thinner case means our watch sits closer to the wrist, ensuring a snug and natural fit. Unlike bulkier dive watches that tend to feel top-heavy, our 150m rated diver’s watch remains comfortable throughout the day, whether you’re in the office or underwater.
The Perfect Diver’s Companion
By choosing 150m over 200m, we’ve created a watch that offers the best of both worlds - strong water resistance without unnecessary bulk. Whether you're a diving enthusiast or someone who simply appreciates a beautifully designed timepiece, our Kshan diver’s watch delivers uncompromised performance while maintaining a sleek and modern aesthetic.
